StormHarbour, the leading independent global markets and financial advisory firm, today announces the opening of an office in Madrid and the appointment of Juan Del Rivero as Senior Advisor, further underscoring the firm’s commitment to add highly experienced industry professionals across its core securities businesses.

Formerly a Partner and Chairman of Goldman Sachs for Spain and Portugal, Mr Del Rivero’s appointment is part of StormHarbour’s strategy of adding leading industry practitioners to provide its clients with best in class, independent advice and execution. This follows a number of senior hires in 2012, including the appointment of Eric Daniels, former Group Chief Executive of Lloyds Banking Group, as its first Senior Advisor.

Established in 2009, StormHarbour is an independent, credit focused global financial advisory firm with three core businesses; sales and trading, structuring and advisory and capital markets. The firm has a presence in the major financial centres and is taking advantage of significant growth opportunities arising from the shifting financial services landscape, particularly in sectors vacated by full service banks.

The development further underlines StormHarbour’s long-term commitment to Southern Europe and follows the firm’s several successes in originating and executing a number of financing and capital management transactions in the region in 2012.

During his highly distinguished 32 year career, including 23 years at Goldman Sachs, Mr Del Rivero has advised the leading financial institutions, corporations, public sector entities and family offices in Spain on some of the largest and most innovative M&A, financing and hedging transactions undertaken by his clients.

Since retiring from Goldman Sachs in 2011, Mr Del Rivero has been a Senior Advisor to Uria & Menendez, the leading law firm in Spain, Azora Gestion, one of the largest dedicated Social Infrastructure asset management firms in Spain as well as holding a senior advisory role for Omega-Capital, one of the leading family offices in the country.

Antonio Cacorino, Managing Principal and co-founder of StormHarbour, said: “We are delighted to welcome a banker of Juan’s standing to our firm. Southern Europe represents a significant opportunity for the firm and is a key region for our ambitious European growth strategy. Juan’s broad and extensive experience and long established relationships with senior decision makers are invaluable and we look forward to his active involvement in extending the firm’s franchise.”

Juan Del Rivero commented: “I am delighted to join such a dynamic and successful partnership. StormHarbour’s significant achievements thus far not only reflect its compelling, client-focused value proposition and market expertise, but also a commitment to its core values and to realising a longterm vision. I look forward to working with StormHarbour’s clients and senior management team and to helping the firm in furthering its global franchise.”

Juan del Rivero will join Gonzalo Chocano, Principal and Managing Director, Head of Spanish Origination in StormHarbour’s Madrid office.
